Chena Dome and the Write of Spring

Lately I have been skiing myself ragged, trying to squeeze every last day of sunshine and fast snow out of spring! Last weekend I was hoping to "take it easy" by going on a leisurely snowshoe up the south trail of Chena Dome. Unfortunately, nobody else had decided to snowshoe on that trail previously this winter - so we were breaking trail past the first mile all the way to the top of the ridge. Not a really long hike distance-wise, but definitely a hard climb! There were a couple of spots where the snow had drifted over trees, which left weak spots that you couldn't see until you fell in to your waist!

While climbing up I was too focused on making a trail to enjoy the scenery. The views from the ridge top made it all worth it!
