Tetons - hiking Jenny lake to Inspiration Point

We hiked from String lake to Jenny lake, and then went up Cascade canyon to Hidden falls and Inspiration point. We were chased back to the car by a sudden thunderstorm, an exciting event for Alaskans because we rarely hear thunder. All the photo credit belongs to Dashiell since I left my camera behind that day. He got some great shots of an Osprey fishing! It had a nest nearby with one chick that we could see.

Osprey were present at EVERY lake and river we saw in Yellowstone and in the Tetons - I had no idea they were so common there! Compared with other raptors, I think they have a very lyrical call reminiscent of sea birds.

Hidden Falls

Inspiration Point, with Jenny lake below and the storm advancing towards us. We ran down pretty quickly trying to get to lower elevation!

Le Grand Teton, and myself for scale!

That evening we drove back to Bozeman, stopping at Midway Geyser Basin on the way back through Yellowstone. We wanted to see the giant Excelsior Geyser and the Grand Prismatic Spring, which shrouded in steam looked like an ocean with a rainbow shore.

We were completely surrounded by hot water on the boardwalk, and so steam immersed everything!

Runoff from Excelsior Geyser rushes into the Firehole River.
